We are a home filled with animal lovers so of course our house is filled with a variety of animals. I am lucky in the fact that other family members actually do pitch in with all the work that it takes to take care of all of these critters. I remember the first dog that we got, my mother had a fit, swearing that I would be sorry, telling me that I would be the only one taking care of him. I am always happy to prove my mother wrong and this time it is no different.
The only real issue at this point is the inevitable stains that appear on my wall-to-wall carpet that is covering the majority of the floors in the upper level of the house. I used to rent a carpet cleaning machine every couple of months, what a pain in the rear that was, it was a great Christmas when I received my own carpet cleaning machine as a present.! T
he machine works real well but there are a few places that are really being stubborn so I took some time and looked online to find some carpet cleaning tips pet stains and was dismayed to find nothing that I had not all ready tried in the past to no avail.
But what I did find is a local company at The Steam Team that offers a solution that I had not heard or tried yet. After cleaning urine spots, you immediately blot until no more moisture comes up with a white terry cloth towel or plain white paper towels. Then you mix 1 part white vinegar to 2 parts water and massage into the spot with a white terry cloth, do not rub. After flushing as much of the urine out as possible blot with dry cloths until the feel dry to the touch. And if you have a small extraction machine you should flush with clean water until the spot is totally removed. If that doesn’t work they suggest contacting them and have them come in and let the professionals do what they do best, which is exactly what I plan on doing after trying their solution tomorrow.
Now that we have 2 children, sneaking away for date night isn’t always easy. After setting our home security alarm and dropping the kids off, we always spend a few minutes discussing what to do. Should we see a movie? Head to our favorite restaurant for a delicious dinner? Take a walk in the park? After careful deliberation, we often decide that going bowling is what we want to do.
I love bowling. My boyfriend and I are both extremely competitive, and bowling gives us a chance to entertain this shared characteristic. We often bowl alone, but sometimes we are joined by other couples. Occasionally, we bring the kids.
Our local bowling alley has a fun atmosphere on Friday and Saturday nights. Strobe lights, smoke, and loud music make bowling together even more fun than it usually is. On nights when we’re feeling confident and outgoing, we participate in karaoke and dance contests with the other bowlers. We have yet to win any prizes, but there’s always next time!
Sometimes my boyfriend ends up with a higher score than I do, but that’s only because I let him win (at least that’s what I tell him). On our next bowling date, I’m going to get strike after strike, with a few spares thrown in. No gutter balls, though. I have to beat my boyfriend’s score.
The amount of trick-or-treaters that we get here has been dwindling in numbers each and every year, which is really depressing. I rather enjoy dressing up, decorating the house up and answering the door bell to hand out candy to all the neighborhood kids. This year we didn’t get a single trick-or-treater. We are being told that it was because of all of the extreme weather due to Hurricane Sandy. Guess we will find out for sure next year.
